Buddy up: Get together with a friend or two and decide what you want to do even if nobody shows up. At least you'll have fun anyway and you won't gain the reputation of frequently canceling events.

Make a back-up plan. Weather is the biggest variable but anything can come up at the last minute.

Have a contact name and number. Even if it's only a nickname. Be easy to reach even if primarily by E-mail. On the day of the event a cell phone number is soooo handy.

If you plan to make a profit say so upfront! It's Okay to arrange an event where the host gets in or rides free. Even a slight profit is acceptable for the trouble you're going to. But keeping it secret will do you in. Gouging your attendees will work only once.
